Our Board


Ecotrust Canada is a federally registered charity governed by an independent and voluntary board of directors. The organization is headquartered in Vancouver, BC, with a community office in Prince Rupert. While separately governed organizations, we have a shared history and ongoing alliance with Ecotrust in Portland, Oregon.

Jacqueline L. Koerner

Ms. Koerner is pursuing her PhD at UBC in the Department of Geography. Her research interests are in resilience building; particularly, how people and place matter in a rapidly globalizing world; how they engage in innovative partnerships, at a variety of scales, developing economic strategies and practices, for-profit and not-for-profit, to improve their well-being – economic, environmental and socio-cultural.

Ms. Koerner has an extensive background in philanthropy and the non-profit sector, including employment with both The Vancouver Foundation (Vancouver, BC) as a Program Director and Calmeadow Foundation (Toronto, ON) as a Program Officer. In addition, Ms. Koerner has worked as an independent consultant on micro-enterprise projects in Canada, the USA and overseas.

Ms. Koerner is the founding and Past Chair of Ecotrust Canada, a Vancouver-based enterprising non-profit working at the intersection of conservation and community economic development. She also served on the board of Ecotrust (Portland, OR) as a Director and Vice-Chair, 1994-2005.

Ms. Koerner is a founding member of the Museum of Anthropology External Advisory Board (Vancouver), 2007-present. She was also a member of UBC Campaign Steering Committee, 2009-2011, and is a member of the UBC Campaign Cabinet, 2011-present. Ms. Koerner is a Trustee of The Koerner Foundation (Toronto, ON).

Ms. Koerner served as a board member of BC Women’s Hospital Foundation (1995-1998), as a director of St. John Ambulance British Columbia/Yukon, 1994-2000, and as founding President of the Vancouver Child Study Center, 1997-1999.

She earned her M.A. in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (Ottawa, ON) in 1984, and a BA Honours in Geography from Queen’s University (Kingston, ON) in 1982.

Ms. Koerner lives in Vancouver with her husband, Robert Safrata. They have four young adult children.
