PIONEERING A NEW FORESTRY APPROACH
Forests filter freshwater for salmon and people, provide sustenance for culture, offer us recreational opportunities, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and sustain rich biodiversity and wildlife as well as providing timber for a myriad of purposes. That's the true value of a forest. At Ecotrust Canada we are searching for ways to unlock all those values so that there is a true incentive to manage our forests better.
Ecotrust Canada is a leader in promoting ecosystem-based management and FSC certification on the BC coast, and has a team of Registered Professional Foresters on staff ready to make a difference. Based on 15 years of engagement in forestry, we are designing new business approaches to help communities profit sustainably from the wealth of our coastal rainforests.
- Forest Stewardship Council certification is a globally recognized certification system that is supported by environmental groups, and provides guarantee to consumers that the product they buy comes from responsibly managed forests. The Ecotrust Canada FSC program gives forest managers and manufacturers the opportunity to join our certification groups to gain access to group benefits and savings.
- Making the most from every tree harvested is the key to a true value-added approach to forestry. In Clayoquot Sound, we are helping local communities understand the opportunities and options available to turn trees into the most valuable products possible.
- The key to better land and watershed management is understanding and extracting the full range of values inherent in the forest. Ecotrust Canada has been identifying and modeling ecosystem values that can complement timber harvesting to provide a balanced revenue source which is as good or better than one focused on the current industrial model.
