Governance

The Ecotrust Canada Capital Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ecotrust Canada, a non-profit, charitable organization based in Vancouver, BC.  The capital corporation is managed under the direction of an independent Board of Directors appointed directly by Ecotrust Canada.

Board of Directors

  • John Berdes has 25 years of community development experience and is currently the President of ShoreBank Enterprise Cascadia, a nonprofit rural economic development corporation based in Ilwaco, Washington.
     
  • Dominique Collin is a national expert in community economic development with more than 25 years of experience in First Nation access to capital, micro-credit, developmental banking and social venture capital. He obtained an interdisciplinary PhD for work on the economic development, modernization and social identity of First Nation and Inuit communities in Canada.
  • Ian Gill is President of Ecotrust Capital and its parent owner Ecotrust Canada. Ian is one of the country’s leading social entrepreneurs. Prior to founding Ecotrust Canada, Ian was an award-winning writer-broadcaster with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation specializing in land-use, environmental and resource issues.
     
  • Michael Rodger is President of West Bay Strategic Resources, a Victoria-based consulting firm specializing in the negotiations and facilitation of workable, mutually beneficial agreements between government, industry and First Nations.
  • Bill Young is the founder and President of Social Capital Partners, which invests in enterprises employing people outside the economic mainstream in Canada. Bill has 20 years experience leading high-growth companies and earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Credit Committee

Ecotrust Canada Capital also convenes a Credit Committee of experienced financial advisors, appointed by the Managing Director, which reviews and approves loans made by the capital corporation.
