New high-speed catamaran launches in Prince Rupert

A Prince Rupert eco-tourism and water taxi business has set sail in a brand new boat. West Coast Launch purchased a 100-passenger catamaran built by Sylte Shipyards in Maple Ridge.

The company provides water taxi service between outlying communities and Prince Rupert as well as transportation for schoolchildren. From May to October, the company leads sightseeing and whale and grizzly bear watching tours. The new boat requires less fuel per person than the older, smaller vessels currently run by West Coast Launch. The new vessel is also enabling the company to grow to meet demand.

Ecotrust Canada Capital, Vancity Capital and Northern Savings Credit Union provided financing to West Coast Launch to build the new boat.
