Cougar Annie's Garden

CougarAnnie130.jpg

"She could sure handle a gun." The tales told about Ada Annie Rae-Arthur are legendary. Now her pioneer homestead and garden in Clayoquot Sound have come back to life.

She raised eight children, outlasted four husbands and reportedly shot more than 80 cougars during her seventy years living in the wilds of Clayoquot Sound. Her pioneer homestead, orchards and flower garden have become a renowned heritage site in the misty rainforests of Vancouver Island. Caretaker Katrina Kadoski offers a guided tour of the gardens in a YouTube video. For information about touring the gardens visit www.boatbasin.org.
