The United Nations declared 2011 the International Year of Forests (link), and at Ecotrust Canada we are keen to ensure that Canada leads the world in sustainable forest management.

With 80% of terrestrial biodiversity found in forests and much of the world’s economy depending on forest products and services, the conservation of forests is critical in the 21st century. Our staff member Daniel Arbour spoke about the state of global forests in a recent CBC interview in his role as Chair of the Canadian Model Forest Network.

Through our award-winning FSC certification programs, Ecological Goods and Services initiatives, and work with First Nation communities on sustainable forest management and climate change adaptation, our forest team is well positioned to contribute to leadership in the sector.
