Jayne Stevens,
Greenhouse and Gardening Assistant (Canada Summer Jobs)

Jayne is from the village of Lax̱g̱alts’ap from the Nisg̱a’a Nation and was born and raised in Kxeen (Prince Rupert, BC). She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies and Art History & Visual Studies at the University of Victoria.

With Ecotrust Canada, Jayne supports school greenhouses and community food-growing projects through planting, harvesting, greenhouse maintenance and garden care. She is passionate about connecting culture, land, and food through place-based learning. Jayne is driven by the strength of community and the power of collaboration in creating meaningful change.

Jayne also enjoys working for the Gitmax̱maḵ’ay Nisg̱a’a Society as a hiking eco-tour guide. On her time off work, Jayne works on her research project on the rematriation of the Ni’isjoohl Pts’aan, a totem pole she has connections to through her Ye’e (grandfather). She also loves biking, paddle boarding, and hiking.
