The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance has just released a comprehensive regional analysis of the state of the economy on the southern BC Coast. The report provides detailed economic and demographic profiles of the coastal regional districts as well as analysis of various economic sectors. Click here to download a PDF of the report.
Vancouver-based consulting firm Vannstruth prepared the report. One particularly interesting bit of analysis looks at regional comparative advantages based on economic sectors. For instance, Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District with the ports of Ucluelet, Tofino and Port Alberni has the strongest comparative advantage when it comes to fishing and seafood manufacturing. Vannstruth displayed this analysis in diagrams, one of which is pasted below.
The report is a very good reference for anyone wanting to understand economic and demographic trends on the coast.
