Location: Remote. The position may be located anywhere in Canada, with the understanding that meetings will most often be coordinated according to Pacific Time, and frequent in-person meetings in Vancouver BC will be required. From time to time, the position will also require travel elsewhere in Canada and the United States

Four Day Work Week: Ecotrust Canada has adopted a four-day work week of 32 hours, Monday through Thursday.
Reporting: This position will be a member of Ecotrust Canada’s Executive Team and will report directly to Ecotrust Canada’s President and CEO.
Salary Range: $105,000 to $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Ecotrust Canada is seeking a skilled, and experienced fundraising professional to join our executive team to oversee, plan, and implement all of the organization’s fundraising. The position will also have a role in assisting our community partners to access funds. Ecotrust Canada’s current funding is largely program driven, and the Director of Development will be expected to continue to support the development of program related grants and contracts, while also substantially expanding our unrestricted and major donor fundraising efforts. A key priority for the position will be to develop strategic alternatives that can build a stable, and sustainable revenue base to support the organization’s long-term health and execution of its mission.
- Direct the creation and growth of diversified fundraising activities, including building foundation, government, and major donor support.
- Develop practices and protocols which ensure that our fundraising lives up to and promotes principles of Reconciliation as articulated by Ecotrust Canada’s Reconciliation Framework, and as informed by our community partners.
- Engage the CEO, staff, and the Board of Directors to build capacity for fundraising across the organization.
- Coordinate and support both unrestricted giving and program related fundraising.
- Support fundraising being undertaken directly by our partner communities.
- Perform and supervise research to identify new individual, foundation, and corporate prospects.
- Coordinate all grant applications, letters of inquiry, and reporting.
- Coordinate personalized donor acknowledgements and other correspondence and communications with prospective and existing donors.
- Oversee development and use of the organization’s Client Relationship Management system.
- Conceptualize and organize events, such as cultivation briefings, and small receptions.
- Develop strategies and goals to chart a course for the organization’s development needs over the next 5 years.
- Participate in annual planning and collaborate with the CEO to establish annual goals for the Development Program.
- Produce regular analyses for senior management that track the progress of fundraising activities.
- Hire and manage a Development Coordinator to support all development related activities.
- Supervise outside grant writers and consultants as needed.
- Commitment to the mission of Ecotrust Canada.
- A degree in business, communications, marketing, or disciplines related to the mission of Ecotrust Canada;
- At least 5 years’ experience and a proven ability to research, cultivate, solicit, and steward new sources of individual, corporate, foundation, and government support.
- Existing knowledge of, and preferably relationships with, Canadian/U.S. foundations and major donor networks.
- Experience with fundraising as it intersects with issues of Reconciliation, diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Experience with CRM’s and specifically Salesforce.
- An ability to initiate, develop, coordinate, and execute project plans.
- Demonstrated superior writing and presentation skills, for both internal and external audiences.
- A passion and understanding for issues of equity, economy, and environmental sustainability, and the capability to speak to these issues with power and integrity.
- Impeccable organizational and analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
